The Maine Legislature passed a bill that gives 100%-disabled veterans exemption from excise tax on one registered vehicle. The vehicle must have “disabled veteran” plates. They are also exempt from one title fee and one drivers license renewal fee.

If you need to register your vehicle as a disabled veteran, you must go to a BMV location (this cannot be done at the town-level). Bring your DD-214 and photo I.D. with you.
