Registration and Licenses

Automobile Registration

Attention Paris Citizens, we would like to remind everyone that the Town Office stops doing new/private vehicle sales at 4pm. This pertains to cars and recreational vehicles and transfers. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience, thank you!

**The Town will process all new vehicle registrations and transfer registrations from 8 am – 4 pm.**

Required For New Cars

  • Window Sticker
  • Bill of Sale
  • Blue Title Application
  • Proof that the Sales Tax has been paid
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Mileage

Required For Used Cars, Dealer Sale

  • Bill of Sale
  • Blue Title Application
  • Proof that the Sales Tax has been paid
  • Current Mileage
  • Proof of Insurance

Required For Used Cars, Private Sale

  • Bill of Sale
  • Title if the vehicle is 1995 or newer
  • Current Mileage
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Lien Release if needed

Required For Re-Registration

  • Proof of Insurance
  • Mileage

*Your old registration is needed if you are transferring plates from another vehicle or you have moved to South Paris from a different town in Maine.

*As of January 1, 2010 only vehicle year 1995 and newer are required to apply for a title. Vehicles manufactured prior to 1994 are not required to apply for a Maine Title.

Hunting and Fishing Licenses

  • Hunting License $26.00
  • Fishing License $25.00
  • Combination License $43.00
  • Junior Hunting License $8.00

*Prices listed do not include the $2.00 agent fee. For a hunting license proof of successfully completing a hunter safety course or of a previous license in the past ten years is required.

Dog Licenses

  • Neutered/Spayed – $6.00
  • Non-neutered/spayed – $11.00
  • Late Fee effective February 1 – $25.00 per dog

*Due before January 31 of each year. Rabies certificate and neutering certificate must be shown. Dogs must be licensed once they reach 6 months of age.

ATV Registration

  • To register a new ATV requires a Dealer’s Certificate.
  • To register a used ATV for the first time requires a Bill of Sale.

— ATV Registrations are $70.00 plus a $2.00 agent fee for new registrations, or $1.00 agent fee for registration renewals.

If the ATV was registered in Maine previously, then providing the Registration Number will help and make the registration process easier.

*If sales tax was not paid at the time of purchase for a new or used ATV, then it is due at the time of registration.

Snowmobile Registration

  • To register a new snowmobile requires a Dealer’s Certificate.
  • To register a used snowmobile for the first time requires a Bill of Sale.

— Snowmobile registrations are $55.00 plus a $2.00 agent fee for new registrations, or $1.00 agent fee for registration renewals.

If the snowmobile was registered in Maine previously, then providing the Registration Number will help and make the registration process easier.

*If sales tax was not paid at the time of purchase of a new or used snowmobile, then it is due at the time of registration.

Boat Registration

  • To register a new boat requires a Dealer’s Certificate.
  • To register a used boat requires a Bill of Sale.

— Boats are subject to excise tax, plus the registration and agent fee.
Excise tax for boats is calculated based on the length of the boat, year of the boat, and HP/CC of the boat motor. Boats without a motor are not subject to excise tax.

If the boat was registered in Maine previously, then providing the Registration Number will help and make the registration process easier.
